Remove Blocks so Prosperity Fills Your Life

Make a bridge to New Prosperity for Your Life.

Make a bridge to New Prosperity for Your Life.

“What can remove the blocks so prosperity increases in my life?” my client, Allen, asked.
“Fear is the big block for many people. I’ll help you quiet down fear and leap forward,” I replied.

To open up the floodgates for prosperity, I help my clients take action in 4 critical areas, and I use the label “R.I.S.E.” to make the process memorable. Making a great plan that includes the R.I.S.E. elements can quiet down your fear and help you take effective action. Additionally, the R.I.S.E. elements lift you to higher levels of abundance and happiness.

R – risk well
I – intuit
S – start Creating
E – energize a team and tracking

As an Executive Coach – Spoken Word Strategist, I work with my clients in-depth to develop their customized plan and implement it.

Here I’ll give a brief overview.

1. Risk well

Many of us miss out on bringing in real prosperity to our life because of fear—fear that taking a risk will destroy what we have. The answer is to develop the skills to “Risk Well” (my phrase).

Use these questions to build your plan for identifying appropriate risks:

  • Will I grow?
  • Will I learn?
  • Will I make new alliances?
  • Can I avoid “losing the store”?
  • Can I make money all the while?
  • Does my heartfelt intuition call me to go forth in this direction?

Now it’s your turn.

How can you be careful with budgets and resources so you don’t hurt yourself when you take an appropriate risk?

2. Intuit

The top successful people I’ve interviewed demonstrate that they often use intuition. Intuition is like a muscle: If you don’t use it, you lose it.

You need to both make space for your intuition, and you need to take action upon your intuition. Intuition is like a friend who says, “You don’t listen to me anyway; I’ll just shut up.”

Instead, honor your intuition.

First, identify which internal voice you’re listening to:

Voice of Fear: contract, hide, don’t take appropriate risks.

Voice of Intuition: expand, experiment, grow, take appropriate risks

Second, find a way to take some steps forward. Monitor your results. Check in with your intuition again and again along the way.

The thing about intuition is: Intuition gives you Steps 1, 2, 3. You cannot see Steps 18, 19, 20 yet. Still, at Step #3, you can see the next steps of 4, 5, 6. Your perspective has shifted. It’s like you’ve reached the peak of a small mountain, and you can now see other mountain peaks. Intuition will give you the next steps to take.

Keep stepping forward.

Now it’s your turn.

How can you make time to get quiet and get access to your intuition? How will you take action?

3. Start Creating

To bring more income in, you need to create something. You could create a product, a new speech or something else.

Or you could “Create a Great New Impression of You.”

You can show how you have enhanced skills, more experience – and you have created new results. When you create such an impression (also known as your Enhanced Personal Brand), you can gain a promotion or a raise. [Your personal brand is the answer to: “What are you best known for?”]

Now it’s your turn.

What can you create (product, Enhanced Personal Brand) to bring in more income?

4. Energize a Team and Tracking

My phrase is “Use Alliances for Advances.”

Collaboration and kindness can create powerful leaps forward.

On many occasions I’ve helped someone, and soon they will give me vital information or referrals.

Here are what I call “The 3 Magic Words of Networking”: Help Them First.

Find ways to help others.

Send them a link to a useful article.

Connect people. I often connect someone who needs a service (for example, editing) with someone I trust.

Both people benefit.

Now it’s your turn.

How can you help others?
How can you build relationships of trust?
How might you pull people together into a team and get something big done?

Energize Tracking

One of my phrases is: “Keep Score and Achieve More.”

“Tom, how did you write and publish 28 books?” a number of audience members ask me.

I reply that I keep a number of Progress Logs going. I note how many words I write per day. Seeing my progress builds up my personal energy. I get more done.

An old phrase is: If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it. To unleash real prosperity, you do not need only more activity. Instead, you need to track your activities and see what real results are coming in. If something does not work, modify it or replace it.

To know what to do, get the data. Track your results.

Now it’s your turn.

How can you track your actions and what results they’re bringing in?

*  *  *

When you develop your prosperity plan to include the 4 Elements of R.I.S.E., you’ll bring in more financial abundance and joyful moments.

Remember:

R – risk well
I – intuit
S – start creating
E – energize a team and tracking

Rescue Your Personal Energy and Get More Done!

Ignite new warmth and better opportunities in your life!

Ignite new warmth and better opportunities in your life!

“Tom, when did you get surprised and learn something profound?” my friend, Andie, asked.

In reply, I told her about my experience with a friend, “George.” I didn’t use his real name.

Something that I learned is:

When you accept something, it does not mean that you agree; it means that you’ve stopped resisting and losing energy!

Over a span of years, I did a lot of listening to George. I wanted to be supportive of my friend. He had some extreme views, and listening to them would suck the life out of me.

Ever the good friend, I called George to see how he was doing. I’d ask, “What are you looking forward to?” And he’d take that as an insult. He was not looking forward to anything.

I was asked by my sweetheart, “Why don’t you free yourself of George?” She knew that I was losing time and personal energy.

I said, “I’m a loyal friend.”

Then one day, after other rough times, George said in a phone conversation, “Our conversation was largely useless.”

My intuition kicked in. I replied, “I don’t do useless things. I’m not going to be calling you, George. If you have an emergency, you can call me. I do care about you.”

After a few more words back and forth, that was the end of it. The phone call ended, and George left my life.

And wow! What a blessing.

I had such a savings in my personal energy.

Over the next years, I wrote eight books and accomplished other things, too.

I invite you to remember this idea:

When you accept something, it does not mean that you agree; it means that you’ve stopped resisting and losing energy!

I did not want to agree to the idea that my loyal listening to George had no real effect or value to him.

I learned to accept that I would not have a life-long friendship with George. It was time to let go. It was time for me to stop losing energy to resisting the parting of ways with George.

I invite you to take a look and see what you are resisting.

I’ve talked with clients and audience members who said:

  • I’m resisting the truth that my sister simply does not really care about me and my life.
  • I’m resisting the reality that I cannot put up with my current job. I need to find something that engages my creativity.
  • I’m resisting that I must learn how to be a salesperson or my own company will go bankrupt.
  • I’m resisting that for a time I’ll need to do two jobs: one to earn rent money and the other which is my “creative-life job”
  • I’m resisting that I need to limit my contact with a bitter relative.

When you stop resisting, often you stop trying to change someone else or even get that person to listen to you.

Unleash Real Prosperity; Learn about Real Power

Expand Your Awareness and Increase Your Prosperity!

Expand Your Awareness and Increase Your Prosperity! Enjoy the book 10 Seconds to Wealth.

Where does big prosperity come from? Learn how to make excellent choices and take the Right Risks. This is a source of Real Power.

Some people know that Walt Disney’s first company Laugh-O-Gram Studio went bankrupt. It must have hurt an extra amount because Walt had seen his father fail at a number of business ventures, too.

Disneyland was a huge risk. More that that, everyone was against it: Walt’s wife Lillian, his brother/business partner Roy O. Disney and the board of directors. Walt cashed in his life insurance to pay for the first designs of Disneyland.

These details inspired me to think about how we might choose well when a risky choice arises.

My intuition gave me a number of questions to help me ascertain if something is what I call the “Right Risk.”

  • Will I grow?
  • Will I learn?
  • Will I make new alliances?
  • Can I avoid “losing the store”?
  • Can I make money all the while?
  • Does my heartfelt intuition call me to go forth in this direction?

Now, I’ll talk a bit about each question and add some wise council from Walt Disney.

  • Will I grow? Will I learn?

I’ve written over 2 million words. Over the years, I have been working to improve in the craft of writing—both nonfiction and fiction. I don’t get stuck like I did several years ago. I’ve learned how to jump in and get writing even when I don’t feel like. Writing has become like dancing to me: You stretch, you learn the steps and then you have moments of real grace.

Many of us writers learn to revise and revise.

“Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it’s done right.” – Walt Disney

  • Will I make new alliances?

Many times we make the biggest strides forward when we team up or at least get some coaching. This is one of the reasons why I find so much meaning as an Executive Coach – Spoken Word Strategist. I help my clients learn things faster, get unstuck and streamline their process to reach higher levels of success and fulfillment.

My phrase is: Alliances make advances.

I’ve hired more than ten editors. I’ve learned from each one. Often, we go farther faster when we team up with effective people.

For example: In the early years, Ub Iwerks drew Mickey Mouse for the first animated Disney films. Without Ub’s contribution, Mickey would not have looked nor moved the way he did. This is an example of the power of alliances: Walt Disney’s story sense and Ub’s design/animation sense.

Later, Ub left the Disney Company to head his own studio. This bothered Walt a lot. Still, it’s said that of all the telegrams that arrived to celebrate the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Walt kept only one telegram—the one from Ub.

Years later, Ub returned to call upon Walt. Ub wanted a job, and Walt gave him the facilities so Ub could experiment with some technical processes. One of Ub’s advances made it possible to efficiently make 101 Dalmatians.

Walt had a habit: He would ask the team members to “plus” [add to/improve] each scene of a film.

Now it’s your turn.

How can you team up with effective people?
What gaps in your knowledge or resources do you need shored up by working with others?
Write down notes about how you can gain team members or collaborate with others.

  • Can I avoid “losing the store”?

“Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how you learn how to walk.” – Walt Disney

My point is: Build in a buffer zone so you avoid “losing the store.” By this I mean, be careful about a budget and the use of resources. If possible, avoid spending too much on a project.

Some people note that in the same year James Cameron spent $200 million on Titanic, Steven Spielberg spent $63 million on Jurassic Park.

We realize that Titanic called for more expenditures. They built a replica of the great ship, for example.

Still, Steven Spielberg is a master of choosing what to place in a movie and what to leave out.

For example, a river scene with attacking Pterodactyls was dropped from Jurassic Park (considered too expensive) and only revived for Jurassic Park III.

“The difference in winning and losing is most often… not quitting.” – Walt Disney

In order to not quit, it can be helpful to retain some money to keep going.

Be careful of budgets of time, money and other resources.

  • Can I make money all the while?

When the Walt Disney Company opens a new theme park they start with a few rides. Then over the years they add more attractions.

“Disneyland is like a piece of clay: If there is something I don’t  like, I’m not stuck with it. I can reshape and revamp.” – Walt Disney

At the Disneyland Resort, when California Adventure Park opened a number of things didn’t go as planned. In the first year 2001, only 5 million visitors attended. To give perspective to that, in that same year Disneyland saw 12.3 million visitors. In response, the Disney team lowered ticket prices.

How bad were things? The park only had about 5,000 to 9,000 visitors on weekdays although it was built to have a capacity of 33,000.

Okay. That was a rocky start. Disney CEO Bob Iger announced a multi-year revision of the park. It had cost $600 million to build California Adventure Park. The Disney team would further invest $1.1 billion to revise and remodel the park. Let’s remember the idea “make money all the while.” California Adventure has been open and earning income across the years.

One detail that captures my interest is that the entrance area was changed to a representation of Los Angeles as it appeared when Walt Disney moved there in the 1920s. What a great idea! This brings in the element of magical, nostalgia energy similar to Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A.

Find ways to bring something to the marketplace and keep improving the product in subsequent versions.

  • Does my heartfelt intuition call me to go forth in this direction?

“When you’re curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.  And one thing it takes to accomplish something is courage.” – Walt Disney

A number of people have asked me, “How did you write 28 books, Tom?”
I reply, “I was called to each one. I wanted to go on the journey of writing each particular book.”

“You reach a point where you don’t work for money.” – Walt Disney

Walt Disney emphasized: “Disneyland is a work of love. We didn’t go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money.”

Walt had been called to create Disneyland:

“Disneyland really began when my two daughters were very young. Saturday was always ‘Daddy’s Day’ and I would take them to the merry-go-round and sit on a bench eating peanuts, while they rode. And sitting there alone, I felt that something should be built, some kind of family park where parents and children could have fun together.” – Walt Disney

So my friend, I now invite you to pause and ask yourself: “Does my heartfelt intuition call me to go forth in this direction?

My heart has called me to direct feature films, create graphic novels, write and sing songs as part of a band, teach MBA students at Stanford University, write 28 books—and more.

I’ve answered the call again and again.

What does your heart call you to do?

Yes – there may be years in which you do a “rent job” to support yourself and race home and do your heartfelt work.

We, who adopt the plan of “Whatever it takes,” step forward without regrets.

Just imagine what you might do if you quieted down fear, and took some good steps forward.

Use a Cure for Feeling Down – Power Up Your Courage and Happiness

Tom Marcoux lands jet ski in feature film scene.

Tom Marcoux lands jet ski in feature film scene.

Many years ago, I took my first tentative steps to become a professional speaker. One day, I was listening to an audio recording of the most successful speaker of the time. “What’s the use?” I thought. I was nothing like this guy. He was tall, Caucasian and loud. I was average height, Asian, and … well … What was I?

I was afraid.

What was the source of my fear? — I was comparing myself to Mr. Top Speaker.

Then I had a thought: “He can’t be everywhere.”

That was a thought that countered my comparing myself to him and thinking that I could not compete with Mr. Top Speaker.

Yes, he could not be everywhere, and besides in the beginning,  I would be speaking where he would not want to present, anyway. I took small steps forward . . . and more opportunities arrived. (I’ve been a professional member of the National Speakers Association for more than 14 years.)

“Mr. Top Speaker” wasn’t in the classroom teaching Stanford University MBA students – I was.

He wasn’t teaching a college level online Comparative Religion course (that I wrote) . . . I was.

He wasn’t writing the 28 books that I wrote.

My point is: You can quickly make yourself scared and actually put yourself into a dis-empowered mood by comparing yourself to someone further along than you are.

On the other hand . . .

It you’re feeling down, focus on this point:

Don’t compare. DO Create.

By the way, comparing does not work because no one else can be You At Your Best.

To this day, there are plenty of people who still do not like Mr. Top Speaker. And there are a significant number of people who come up to me and express how they really relate to my speaking style and what I said in my speech.

Further, I’ll share a secret. You do NOT need to create by yourself.

I’ve learned so much from mentors, books, colleagues and my graduate students – and my experiences with my clients.

The Cure for Feeling Down is: Create something.

Create something artistic.
Create a moment when someone smiles. You can simply say: “Hey, Susan, one thing I appreciate about you is . . .” And then offer the person a sincere compliment.

Use the Power of G.A.G.

As a feature film director, actor and former stuntman, I know that a stunt is called a “gag”—in the film industry. I did a number of gags—including hanging on by my fingertips to the hood of a cherry-red 50’s Chevy truck going 57 miles an hour. [I do not recommend this!].

I’m talking about the “gag” because I want you to remember a special G.A.G.

Do you feel low? Remember G.A.G.: “Gratitude, Action, Giving.”

  • Gratitude – Ask yourself what am I grateful for? Write it down.
  • Action – Identify some simple, small action you can take to create progress for your dream.
  • Giving – Identify something you can do to help someone feel better. Then do it or at least get it into your day planner or calendar.

Let’s say I go through some tough moments with a bitter, elderly relative. I find that my spirits go up when I help someone during my next phone call. Maybe I’m just listening intently. People appreciate being listened to. (I even wrote a book about this process titled, Be Heard and Be TrustedFree chapter when you CLICK HERE.) When you help someone else, you feel better.

“Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The point is: When you are feeling grateful, this focus crowds out feeling down or inadequate.

As an Executive Coach, I help my clients identify the next actions to help them move toward their dream. My clients discover that taking action lifts their spirits in this present moment.

Remember: Don’t compare: DO Create.

Warmly,

Tom

Discover the Power Method to Prosperity

Love yourself to abundance -- a cat knows.

Love yourself to abundance — a cat knows.

“Damn! I just lost one of my two part-time jobs. Now, I’m in trouble about money,” my friend Fred said.

Because he asked, I introduced Fred to the “Power Method to Prosperity.” To say it briefly, “Ask Yourself an Empowering Question.”

Why does this help? To make more money, you need two things: Clarity and Action.

Let’s look at Empowering Questions:

For someone looking for a job:

* How can I design my resume to express something that will make me stand out – and will demonstrate that I will lighten the prospective employer’s burden?

For a business owner:

* What can I do today that will secure more long-term customers?

As an Executive Coach – Spoken Word Strategist, I help a number of my clients build a brand from “zero to Extraordinary.” I ask a number of questions and listen carefully to my clients’ responses. We also test the ideas in number of ways.

One of the tough things for new business owners is to clearly and quickly express what they do and how clients benefit. As I ask questions, I get the client to fill in the blanks of my formula:

Tom Marcoux’s Branding Formula:

I help people _______
to achieve _________
They feel _________
My clients say ______

Here’s another way to view this:

I help people __(verb)__
to achieve __(results)__
They feel __(successful, relieved, happy about, more effective)___
My clients say: Joe is so trustworthy and smart about marketing that my sales went up 37%. [an example]

Here is an Empowering Question:

What do I do that’s easy for me, hard for others and people want to pay for?

This question can help you and me (and yes, Fred!) to consider new ways to bring in income. Think of this: Steve Jobs had the idea that people would pay $0.99 for a song that they could grab for free on the Internet. His idea was new and he had to use his charm and tactics to get music companies to go along. In fact, the Beatles held out for a long time but eventually joined the iTunes fold. People have gained more than 25 Billion downloads of songs from iTunes! I’m participating, too: I have two audiobooks on iTunes myself: Be Heard and Be Trusted and Darkest Secrets of Persuasion and Seduction Masters: How to Protect Yourself and Turn the Power to Good — hear a portion when you CLICK HERE.

Here’s another hint:

One of my mentors said, “If you want clients, you need to talk to them.” I used this idea as a springboard: I can talk to prospective clients through 1.6 min. videos on YouTube. Each video works as a 24/7 ambassador.

Here’s how I demonstrate how my directing a feature film that went to the Cannes Film market helps me to support clients in Building Their Brand . . . Here is a 1.7 min. video example:

The truth is: a prospective client wants to know you and to feel that you’re trustworthy and credible. That’s a significant part of the value of a video.

Here’s another example (1.5 min. video):

In summary, here are other Empowering Questions:

  • How can you talk with your clients/prospective clients through videos?
  • How can you use testimonials to demonstrate you are both trustworthy and quite capable?

To increase your prosperity focus on Empowering Questions, your own Clarity – and that you take action.

Stop Holding Yourself Back – The Hidden Truth for You to Rise to Big Success!

Let happiness and abundance flow well!

Let happiness and abundance flow well!

“No, I can’t get myself to get excited about a possible, positive thing,” my friend Eldon said.

“I’m just curious. When did you last really look forward to something?” I asked.

“I don’t know. Maybe sometime when I was a kid,” he replied.

In working with hundreds of clients, graduate/college students and audience members, I’ve seen something insidious that causes big problems.

It centers on something connected to this question: Why do you hold back from affirming the positive?

Have you seen yourself afraid to hope?!

I have a vital question for you: ‘Do you hold back from hoping for something because you hold some idea that you can NOT endure a big disappointment?

Here’s the truth: Even if  you hide and try to play small, disappointments come into our lives, anyway!

My solution is: Until I know differently, I AM affirming the positive.

Think about it: What if things do go your way, then you would have wasted your time keeping yourself stuck in a negative spiral of thoughts.

The successful people I have interviewed have faced lots of disappointing outcomes and even rejection every week. How? They’re always stretching and putting themselves out into the world.

Have you ever heard a friend say this: “Ahhh, what’s the use? That kind of good thing never happens to me.” And then the person does NOTHING. Beware of this terrible pattern of doing nothing.

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” – Benjamin Franklin

Let’s look at this evidence.

For many of us:

  • There was the day when we could not ride a bicycle . . . and then we did.
  • There was the day that we had no job . . . and then we had a first job.
  • There was the day when we could not swim . . . and then we could swim.

The truth is:  The past does not equal the future. – Tony Robbins

However, if you do not hold a positive picture of your future, you are likely to do NOTHING! That’s a big problem. And that is NOT for you.

So I invite you to consider using my method: Until I know differently, I AM affirming the positive.

As an Executive Coach – Spoken Word Strategist, I support my clients in boldly holding a positive picture of their future and taking consistent action.

Let’s say you want to improve your skills and rise up the ladder and increase your hourly rate.

I know people who worked over years to improve their skills and to get excellent experience. They started at $5.00 per hour and now earn over $400 per hour.

This is doable when a person deeply wants to improve—and is willing to train hard.

“If you work hard on your job you can make a living, but if you work hard on yourself, you’ll make a fortune” – Jim Rohn

One of my favorite sayings is: “Replace worry with action” – Steve Chandler.

Do NOT fall into the rut (or stay there) of those people who say that their lives are: “Same old, same old.”

Do something new. Replace worry with action. Get some new learning. Learn from people who know things that you do not know.

And as you do new things, keep up your own morale (and the morale of people near you).
How?

Until you know differently, Affirm the positive.

  • Yes – you’re learning.
  • Yes – you’re making progress for more abundance in your life.
  • Yes – you have a bright future—with advancements you do not even know about at the moment.
  • Yes – the project you’re working on will have great outcomes (some of which you do not even know right now).

And here is the Hidden Truth: If you do meet a setback or a big disappointment, you CAN endure, bounce back and leap higher than before.

Why? Because by taking action you’ve learned so much more than others who do nothing, risk nothing and stay locked “in their shell”—or comfort zone.

Joy and success are outside your comfort zone.

Take action today.

How to Keep Your Heart Full and Keep Moving Forward

Take your life to a Higher Level: Get the book “Your Power Path to Freedom, Success and Happiness”

“Damn! He did it again,” my friend Nadine said. Her husband had promised to pick up the dry cleaning but had failed to do so.

I know at times, we need to rely on others. But sometimes, we’ll get significantly disappointed.

Recently I wrote: “Collaboration, friendliness and kindness combine as a terrific form of power.” So I’m aware of the how great things can go when people come together. I’m currently leading teams in the United Kingdom, India and the United States of America—so teams mean a lot to me.

Still, my question is: How do you keep your heart full?

And that’s related to this vital question: Where is your hope coming from?

Find some way to take personal action so that’s the springboard for your hope.

If you’re relying only on a human being to bring you hope, that may be a significant problem.

Human beings make errors, get distracted and put themselves first (at times) before others. Human beings, at times, break promises.

How about keeping a promise to yourself—to keep growing, discovering and learning?

I call this “self-generating hope.”

There’s another type of hope: “Self-generating hope.” That’s referencing your Higher Self.

Think of your Higher Self as that part of you that connected with the Divine and with all the good in the universe. When you act from your Higher Self, you act with courage, and you’re divinely guided.

The opposite is to act from your ego—that part of you that’s made of fear.

We can tie this into “Where is your hope coming from?”

Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom.” ― Jim Rohn

A powerful and healthy way to approach life is: My hope arises from my Higher Self and from my taking action–positively and consistently.

We can call this a proactive hope—a courageous hope.

The opposite would be a “wishy-washy hope.” But that is NOT for you.

My friend, step forward. Keep nurturing  yourself. Take action and exercise your Courageous Hope.

That’s how you keep your heart full and you keep moving forward.

Celebrate Wayne Dyer’s Life – and Express YOUR Light

Wayne Dyer and his spirit lives on.

Wayne Dyer and his spirit lives on.

When I heard of Wayne Dyer’s death, I was inspired to write these words and share with Facebook friends:

Wayne Dyer’s death, but more importantly, his life means a lot to me.
I’m glad that I was able to meet him and give him a hug. I’m grateful that I wrote to him, and he wrote back and gave me a couple of his books. On the day of his death, I was listening to a video he recorded in 1980. On the day he was making his transition, I was called to listen to his words. Many blessings to Wayne, his family and all of us who benefit from his work. I’m only sharing a few words at this moment. In honor of Wayne, my thought is: “Express your light.”

Upon reflection, I thought about what gets in the way of our Expressing Our Light.

  1. Others drown out our Heartfelt Voice

The answer is: Acknowledge it’s your destiny and not theirs.

Here’s a way you can stay strong even when you feel all alone and deeply disappointed that loved ones do NOT support you in your making your dream come true.

Perhaps, like many people, your loved ones are afraid. Maybe on a subconscious level they’re afraid that you’ll get hurt as you step out of your comfort zone. Or even, they feel uncomfortable being around someone so focused and striving to fulfill his or her potential. Maybe they fear that you’ll change and leave them behind when you do succeed on a significant scale. Sometimes we lose friends. Top author and speaker Larry Winget wrote: “Some friendships are like belts. We outgrow them.”

Here’s an important point to realize: Other people cannot feel what you feel or intuitively know what you know. Why? It is YOUR destiny—not their destiny. You’re the one person who has all the clues and internal signs that your idea is a valuable one.

Perhaps, you’ve felt the gut-wrenching disappointment when a loved one does NOT support you in your pursuit of something that’s close to your heart.

There is an answer that I learned about from my neighbor who races motorcycles competitively. He said, “In motorcycle racing, we’re trained with the idea: If in doubt, gas it out.” The idea is to “pour on the gas.” My neighbor assures me that if there’s an irregularity in the road, more gas will help the motorcyclist get over the small ridge.

How can we apply if in doubt, gas it out? First, look to yourself for confirmation and energy. Add things that empower you. Often, when I’m writing I’m listening to empowering music. I read empowering books and I see uplifting films.

The point here is: You must take action to keep up your own spirits.

  1. Fear strangles Your Connection with Your Intuition.

The answer is: Identify with your intuition

Above, I invited you to listen to yourself for confirmation.

Just because someone close to you cannot see or imagine your idea that does NOT mean that they’re right! It just means that they cannot feel the value of your idea.

Identify with your intuition and not their fears.

Many things that turned out well took time. For example, it took 8 years and many studios turning down the feature film Splash before it was produced, and Ron Howard directed the film. In fact, Disney turned it down the first time, and it was not until Disney created a new division, Touchstone Pictures, did Splash (starring Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah) get made.

A truly famous example is how co-authors Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield held to their intuition and endured 140 rejections before their book Chicken Soup for the Soul was published. The Chicken Soup for the Soul series has resulted in 250 titles and more than 500 million books sold.

Go by your intuition. Do not rely on others to “have all the answers.” So-called experts can be wrong. You may be providing something that is new and different.

How can you recognize your “voice of intuition”?

Here’s a quick description of two “voices.”

* Voice of fear: contract, hide, do not experiment

* Voice of intuition: expand, build, take appropriate risks

Every day and really every moment, we have a choice. Do we grow and expand and step toward our destiny? Or do we contract and hide and let doubters bring us down?

I invite you to nurture yourself and step forward in a steady pace to create new and better in your life.

  1. Your fear of loss of approval has you hide your light.

The answer is: Measure by your heart and NOT their approval

In a way, I’ve been lucky that my father is stuck, for decades, in a disapproval mode. I’ve learned to listen to my own heart and ignore his negativity. The truth is he has had no experience related to being an entrepreneur, graduate school instructor, author, and feature film director. Sure, he has opinions—uninformed opinions. And I’m so glad that I ignored his narrow-viewed advice. My life has been so much more of a joyful adventure than merely playing it safe. His constant refrain is “survival.” I’ve replied, “That’s not enough. I want to thrive!”

For more encouragement, see my 7 minute video: “How to Believe in Yourself When Others Don’t”:

Do you have someone close to you who simply does not support your vision?

Walt Disney’s own wife, brother/business partner and board of directors were all against Disneyland. Why? There had never been a theme park before. In fact, Walt’s wife Lillian asked Walt, “Why do you want to do an amusement park? They’re so dirty.” Walt replied, “Mine will be clean!”

Walt measured things by his own heart. In fact his first thoughts about creating an amusement park began in 1911 when, as children, he and his sister would stand outside the gates of a Kansas City amusement park. It was not until 1955 when he opened his own gates of Disneyland. Can you hold on to an idea for 44 years? Will you take steady steps forward?

Novelist Greg Bear told me that it took 10 years for readers to discover one of his novels.

My point is that some dreams take several years—and several starts and stops and moments or months of discouragement.

Plenty of people, often those closest to us, will express their doubt. As emphasized in this article, it’s really only natural because you are the one who hears your personal and unique “music and vision.”

Nurture yourself and your vision.

Get coaching and continue your efforts to learn more and more.

Although many of us grieve that Wayne Dyer has passed away; we can celebrate the Light that is in You.

This world needs people who hold to their vision and persist. Thank you!

Want to Bring Yourself to a Higher Level of Living? Use the “A Year Without Fear” Approach

Tom Marcoux holds Tama Kieves's book, "A Year Without Fear"

Tom Marcoux holds Tama Kieves’s book, “A Year Without Fear”

Recently, I learned from author Tama Kieves as I studied her book A Year Without Fear.

Tama tells the truth in a poetic, powerful way that we can hear and use. On page xi, she writes:

“When you really want to go beyond fear, it is not about force, platitudes or manufactured behavior. That kind of impatience just leads to masking pain. True freedom is a conscious, everyday spiritual adventure. It’s a reinvention. It’s a wholly new relationship with yourself.”

So are you ready for a conscious, everyday spiritual adventure? Do you want to step out of the mindset of fear into a focus on possibility, love and feeling safe in the universe? Tama’s book, A Year Without Fear, is a valuable support for such a daily experience.

On page “May 28,” Tama writes: “Remember, it’s a strength to be undoing that which no longer works.” So much of our feeling unsettled is that we’re ready, and perhaps, desperate for a new chapter in life. Tama is reminding us to pay attention to “what no longer works.” She takes us further in suggesting that we be strong and get into the process of “undoing.” Whatever you’ve endured before this moment has been a springboard to what you can do in this new chapter of life.

On page “August 28,” Tama shares: “What if ‘realism’ is just a broken scale, a flawed measure of what you can be in this lifetime? I’ve discovered the concrete power of passion and creativity and it’s paid my bills, rocked my world, and opened me to a sweeter reality that I dreamed possible. ‘Realism’ almost cost me the reality I now live.”

I appreciate that Tama notes “it’s paid my bills.” This reminds us that expanding our thinking and our actions has concrete, valuable benefits. The truth is that when you live on a higher level, your energy is better and you attract more opportunities. I know this to be a fact.

On page “December 9,” Tama writes: “You do not want more control over your life. You want more trust. You want to know that things are moving quietly, effortlessly and favorably in your direction. You do not want to push all the buttons, supervise, calibrate, double-check, and hammer down every detail. You want to be lifted into a life more arresting and harmonious than any you could manufacture.”

The above paragraph embodies much of what Tama successfully achieves with her writing. She shifts our perspective. To where? To the spiritual. As I lead teams in the United Kingdom, India and the United States of America, it’s easy to get focused on all the physical details, all the phone calls and interactions via the Internet.

But what I need is to be reminded of the spiritual level: The level on which the blessed connections are made—and I’m in the right place at the right time, serving the person or people who welcome my contribution.

I truly agree with Tama’s approach. You can connect to a higher level beyond fear and one’s ego.

It is a joy to recommend Tama Kieves’s book, A Year Without Fear, to you.

We often pay close attention to what we’re eating; we care about nutrition.

Consider getting empowering spiritual nutrition, and get this book, A Year Without Fear.

Free Yourself of the Scam of Happiness and Get Unstuck

Are you looking forward and taking new action?

Are you looking forward and taking new action?

“What is a scam of happiness?” my friend Stephen asked.

“The definition of scam includes ‘a dishonest scheme; a fraud,’” I replied.

There’s an old phrase: “If someone says life is easy, they’re delusional or trying to sell you something.”

Along this line, a number of people are selling “quick fixes” related to people feeling happy.

Much of the messages we get through media is that we’re unhappy because we’re missing something—and we can buy something to fill the emptiness. In a way, I’m calling this a scam because just going for more stuff/experiences can lead to true disappointment. Some people get stuck in the “hamster treadmill” of more toys, more food, and more leisure activities. If you go after happiness directly by trying to get more toys, more food and more leisure activities, you may be really disappointed.

The Way to Get Unstuck

I’ve seen people work at jobs they hate, and then spend a lot of money on more toys “because they deserve it.”

The question “do you deserve it” is not helpful. Let’s say you do deserve good things/good people/experiences in life. Now, what are good decisions that support you to be healthy and fulfilled? That’s a useful focus point.

To get unstuck, take a deeper look at your life. Are you doing things that help you feel that you are growing and stretching—and expressing yourself authentically?

Answer these questions for yourself:

Questions to Move Forward Out of a Stuck Place:

  • Are you doing anything new?
  • Are you facing some fear?
  • Can you be rejected?
  • Can you get better at something?
  • Is there some appropriate risk involved?
  • Are you growing in some way?

Successful people I’ve interviewed face fear and rejection on a weekly basis. If you’re doing something new and important, you’ll face resistance. Do not run from resistance. Instead, become skillful in working with resistance.

“You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks, jump over the hurdles and break through the brick walls that are always going to be placed in front of you. If you don’t have that kind of feeling for what it is you’re doing, you’ll stop at the first giant hurdle.” – George Lucas

I mentioned the question: “Are you doing anything new?”

Getting stuck and feeling stuck often revolve around doing nothing new, or at least, nothing that truly engages your heart.

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” – Lao Tzu

We are meant to grow and to step into one new chapter of life after another.

Many of us find that life pushes us to new places. When a close friend committed suicide, I found myself entering a new chapter of my life without my friend in it. I became deeper in my new chapter of life.

You can make a conscious choice to move forward and experience more happy moments. Again, it’s about answering (and taking action related to) the Questions to Move Forward Out of a Stuck Place.

So let’s move away from the “hamster treadmill of more toys, more food, and more leisure activities.”

Find some part of your life in which you can grow and stretch.

You can explore a new hobby.

A hobby may become the source of a new stream of income—or not.

Are you doing something new?–and–Are you growing?
