Manifest What You Want in 2016 — Take Inspired Action

Make 2016 a Year full of Presents for You and Loved Ones!

Make 2016 a Year full of Gifts for You and Loved Ones!

“I want so much, but I’m afraid,” my client Miranda said.
“Afraid of what?” I asked.
“Afraid that this year won’t be different than last year. That it will be more of the same pain,” she said.

We talked some more then I said, “This reminds me of a recent visit I had at a friend’s house. While I was in the restroom, they set up dinner. I arrived at the table and the mother, father and daughter were eating pizza. I took a bite of the pizza. The take-out pizza was burnt. I stopped eating.

“I saw the father scrape off some cardboard from the pizza box on his slice of pizza. He told himself, “It’s okay.” And he kept eating.

“I do have hope for this family because, with my support, the daughter called the pizza restaurant and reported the burnt pizza.

“All she had to do was ASK. Her family had paid for the pizza. The pizza restaurant employee immediately said, ‘We’ll make you two new pizzas.’ So she got in the car and got the replacement pizzas. What do you get from my story, Miranda?”

“All you have to do is ask,” Miranda replied.

“Yes. And you don’t have to eat burnt pizza. Do you see how this has bearing on how you will make this New Year a better year than before?”

To make your New Year better, learn to take Inspired Action. We’ll use the A.I.M. process:

A – assess “Love or Fear”
I – inquire
M – make your heart-response loud

  1. Assess “Love or Fear”

For some of us the idea “love or fear” seems vague or strange.

We can try questions:

  • Am I doing this because I’m afraid something will happen? (fear)
  • Am I doing this because I hope something will happen and I think it will help someone? (love)

When I talk about “Inspired Action,” I’m referring to taking action that arises from inspiration from your own Higher Self—and for those of us who focus on the spiritual—from inspiration from Higher Power.

In over 14 years of teaching college level Comparative Religion (from an online course that I wrote), I’ve observed that many spiritual paths emphasize “approach life with love.”

By the way, to get the replacement pizza (for the burnt pizzas), the daughter talked with love: That is, she simply mentioned the burnt pizza in a calm tone. She made a space for the pizza restaurant employees to improve the situation.

Now it’s your turn.
Can you direct your efforts in ways to help others? Can you be kind to yourself (that’s a loving approach)? Where is the “burnt pizza” in your life? What can you do to drop “burnt pizza” from your life and make room for new blessings? Is your approach one of kindness and compassion?

  1. Inquire

It’s true that at various times, we don’t know what’s the best thing to do next.

Focus on this idea: Inquire. Ask questions.

Stephen, one of my clients, said, “I know I should set up an online course but I don’t know which topic I should choose. I could work hard and hire a tech person—and no one may sign up for a course I wrote. I’d just lose money.”

“I hear you,” I said. “It helps to ‘inquire.’ You can ask people through social media: ‘Which of these 3 topics would you sign up for a free conference call?’ From the responses you might be guided to create an online course on one of the three topics. Or none of them. Then you try something else.”

I invited Stephen to notice his own responses to the feedback he received. If he got excited that people were responding to a particular topic, this might demonstrate that his Inspired Action would be to pursue making an online course on that particular topic.

Now it’s your turn.
Are you inquiring/asking questions in your daily life? Or are you “flying blind?” If you serve customers, it helps to find out what they prefer. How do you know? Ask.
For taking Inspired Action, ask yourself: How can I transform what I do to focus in the following Three Areas?
* the kind thing to do
* the healthy thing to do
* the holy thing (spiritual/kind/compassionate/what Higher Power would ask for) to do.

  1. Make your heart-response loud

I remember a line of dialogue from a STAR TREK feature film.

Captain Kirk wanted to use a starship to travel to two planets in efforts to restore his friend Spock to life. He asked the officials if he could do that.

He returned from the meeting, and Lieutenant Sulu asked: “The word, sir? “

Captain Kirk replied, “The word . . . is no. I am therefore going anyway.”

The movie theater audience cheered. I admit it: I cheered, too.

To take Inspired Action is NOT about waiting for approval or agreement. What counts MORE is your “heart-response.”

The idea here is your heart-response is more important than any advice you might be given.

As an Executive Coach, I speak on Discover Your Enchanted Prosperity because I do more than help people solve problems. I help them transform their lives. This involves getting access to intuition and one’s heart-response.

Now it’s your turn.
What does YOUR heart want? How can you quiet down the distractions in your life so you can hear your own heart-response?
Who is telling you “no”? How can you go around them? How can you take an appropriate risk? How can you take Inspired Action?

When you implement the approach of love, you calmly, pleasantly ask for what you want. To improve this year, make warm connections. In a friendly tone, ask for referrals or sales (if you run a business).

With friends and family, in a compassionate tone, ask to develop agreements. This is better than building up resentments by holding only expectations about other people.

This New Year is full of positive potential.
The universe asks that you take Inspired Action.

Warmly,

Tom

Discover Your Enchanted Prosperity

“There’s got to be a way to do business in which I feel more on purpose and I still enjoy my life!” my friend, Sherrie, said.

I agree with her, and this inspired me to create one of my speech topics: “Discover Your Enchanted Prosperity” (and you can Look Inside the Book when you CLICK HERE)

I will share some brief insights here.

“When you enchant people, your goal [is] to fill them with great delight.” – Guy Kawasaki

When I talk about Your Enchanted Prosperity, I’m referring to our uncovering that which delights us and other people. You discover how to serve people in ways that align with “what you’re good at, what people will pay for and which clients you want.”

We use the O.N.E. process (as in “you’re the one who knows in your heart.”):

O – open
N – nurture intuition
E – encourage

  1. Open

Many people are closed in their thoughts. You hear their comments like “That won’t work.”

Instead, I suggest that we focus on “Let’s find out!” Pick useful sources of information and encouragement. Many people (including “experts”) talk from looking in the rearview mirror—that is, from history.

Instead, make plans and take action as you test things and find out.

Now it’s your turn.

How can you devote some time and effort to be open to new possibilities? What good sources of inspiration and new ideas will you reach for?

  1. Nurture intuition

Think of your intuition as a friend who will help when you make time and space to hear intuition. We’d like intuition to inform us of the end game (steps 18, 19, 20) but intuition gives us Steps 1, 2, 3. When we complete Step 3—then intuition provides Steps 4, 5, 6.

To nurture your intuition, ask yourself, “Am I giving myself time to tinker and listen?” Frequently, in business, we do not have an immediate solution to a problem. If possible it helps to give ourselves some time (even one evening to “sleep on the problem”). Also talk with people and think through (or “tinker” with) the problem.

Now it’s your turn.

How will you make space so you can listen to your intuition? Will you talk with other people and listen carefully to what YOU say and how your heart feels?

  1. Encourage

To discover our Enchanted Prosperity path, we need to encourage ourselves. Do not wait for anyone’s approval. Some people do not know how to give approval. Walt Disney did not wait for approval to make Disneyland. Steve Jobs did not wait for approval of all top music producers to offer songs at $0.99 each. In fact, the Beatles waited many long years before they finally made their songs available on iTunes.

As you do some experiments with projects, tell/ask yourself: “Good effort. Good action. What did I learn? Will I use this, refine it, or drop it?”

Additionally, it helps when your product/service encourages people to do new things and feel good as they do them. Steve Jobs insisted that iPod users needed to be able to get to their music in three clicks. Jobs led his team to make that possible. And iPod users felt good in getting fast access to their music.

Now it’s your turn.

What will you do to encourage yourself? How will you reward yourself for taking small steps forward?

To discover Your Enchanted Prosperity path, remember “Open, Nurture intuition and Encourage.”

Unlock the Secrets to Wealth through “The Millionaire Mentor” Approach

Tom Marcoux holds the book "The Millionaire Mentor" co-authored by Greg S. Reid and Jason Stone

Tom Marcoux holds the book “The Millionaire Mentor” co-authored by Greg S. Reid and Jason Stone

Recently, I learned from studying the book The Millionaire Mentor: Unlocking the Secrets of Wealth by Greg S. Reid and Jason Stone.

This book is valuable! You’ll learn the truth in simple, memorable details. The book is an easy-to-read parable with a mentor guiding a young boy through adulthood.

As a screenwriter and fiction author, I saw how the authors immediately get us to care about the young boy, Oscar. He demonstrates a strong sense of fair play when he offers his prized baseball-hero card in return for the card of wisdom that his new mentor, Roy, gave him. On page 16, Oscar says, “You’ve given me TWO cards already, so I still owe you one.”

“Thank you, Oscar,” the businessman [Roy] says, rising from the table. “You know young man, our arrangement may turn out even better than I’d anticipated. It seems to me you already have the personality traits that make a great leader.”

This is good storytelling. We know that Oscar has a positive attitude and he will learn and take action with the wisdom that Roy gives him. We are rooting for Oscar. That’s important.

Throughout the parable, Roy gives Oscar cards that reveal powerful principles for creating wealth.

Here are two examples:

Page 44: The most effective steps to a sale:

Step 1 –> Contact the decisionmaker
Step 2 –> Qualify and warm up
Step 3 –> Present
Step 4 –> Close
Step 5 –> Warm down

Page 111: Courageously step forward in faith, in spite of any fears. Your attitude is the main factor in your success or failure. So, make it a positive one!

We can derive power from a book when the material is simple, clear and memorable. The Millionaire Mentor fits that criteria well.

The various methods and tips in this book give a truthful overview of the process of wealth creation as delivered by two authentic entrepreneurs Greg S. Reid and Jason Stone.

Even veteran readers of business/inspirational material can gain benefit from the insights in this book.

For readers new to wealth creation material, The Millionaire Mentor proves to be a good place to start.

Want to Interview Well and Get Your Dream Job? Use the “Nail the Interview, Land the Job” Approach

Tom Marcoux holds the book "Nail the Interview, Land the Job" by Michelle Tillis Lederman

Tom Marcoux holds the book “Nail the Interview, Land the Job” by Michelle Tillis Lederman

Recently, I learned from author Michelle Tillis Lederman as I studied her book Nail the Interview, Land the Job.

Lederman tells the truth in a powerful way that we can hear and use. On pages 52-57, she provides vital information for Calming Your Nerves during a job interview. She covers effective ways to deal with dry mouth, sweating and more. She helps you project confidence.

On pages 44-45, Lederman provides excellent pre-job interview “Last Minute Preparations and Tips.” I deeply appreciate how she shares critical advice about being careful about details including perfume/cologne (none), lipstick (careful of smudges on teeth), keys and jingling change (remove them from pockets) and yes, use the restroom before the interview … and more.

On page 141, she notes the value of preparing your own questions for your interviewer. She writes:

“Asking questions also shows initiative and curiosity and illustrates your poise, confidence, and the depth of your knowledge.”

On page 145, Lederman warns, “during a first interview do not ask about salary, benefits, or vacation days. Discuss these only if the interviewer brings them up. Otherwise you’ll come off as calculating and interested more in the perks than the position itself.”

I have personally coached college students to win the Charles Schwab Scholarship and to gain an internship with Donna Karen in New York City—and to join the team that made the video game Game of Thrones. In teaching Designing Careers college level classes for years, I know what people need to have successful job interviews.

I’m also on the other side of the interview table: As CEO, I hire people for my company that has teams in the United Kingdom, India and USA.

With my background, I feel joy to recommend Michelle Tillis Lederman’s book, Nail the Interview, Land the Job to you.

Many of us dread going to job interviews. Armed with the methods in this book, you can look upon interviews as something you can excel at. What a relief!

Eliminate Nervousness when Meeting People for the First Time

Create more success; network effectively

Create more success; network effectively

“I just feel dread when it comes to networking events,” my friend Stephanie said.

“I hear you. What specifically bothers you about walking into a networking event?” I asked.

“Oh – I’m not sure. I guess it’s just so much pressure to try to impress people,” Stephanie said.

For years, I have trained clients and college students in how to have Recovery Methods so they do not have to fear making a mistake when meeting people for the first time. (I teach Recovery Methods in my workshop/keynote address Relax Your Way Networking.)

The major point here is that you remove a lot of nervousness, when you have Recovery Methods and avoid “trying to appear perfect.”

When I teach this material in a workshop or a keynote address, I focus on this catchphrase: “Recover and Release Jitters.”

We use the C.A.L.M. process of using Recovery Methods:

C – correct “that’s not what I meant”
A – allow time with water
L – let them help you
M – move them to “forgive”

  1. Correct “that’s not what I meant”

What if you knew how to recover from any mistake in what you say? Here’s a powerful method: Say, “That’s not what I meant to say. What I meant to say is ______.” And you tell them the correct words.

My clients report that this method is so helpful whether meeting someone new at a networking event—or even in giving a speech.

Now it’s your turn.

Will you use the phrase “That’s not what I meant to say. What I meant to say is ___”? Or will you modify this phrase to something you’re comfortable using?

  1. Allow time with water

Release yourself from having to say something immediately. Get time to think. How? Take a drink of water from a glass that you hold in your hand. (By the way, drinking water is safer than something like red wine that may stain someone’s clothing.)

We notice that 40% of the population identifies themselves as introverts. Introverts like to think before they talk. The solution is to take a drink of water.

When you walk up to a group of people, you can nod and smile—and take a drink of water while you’re listening to the person who is currently speaking. Then, you can find a way to introduce yourself and enter the conversation. For example, you can say, “Oh – that’s interesting. I’m wondering about the XY project. By the way, I’m [your name.]”

Now it’s your turn.

Will you rehearse with a friend, so that you move smoothly up to a group—while you have your glass of water in hand? Practice how you will join the conversation.

  1. Let them help you

If you find yourself mispronouncing a word or not knowing how it is correctly pronounced, you might simply ask, “How do you pronounce that word?”

My point here is that it looks worse when someone misuses a word and continues onward oblivious to his or her error.

For example, here is how to ask for a bit of help. I have a client who has dyslexia. So when she is autographing books, she says simply, “I have dyslexia. I’ll need you to spell your name one more time—a bit slower. Thank you.”

Now it’s your turn.

How can you gently ask for help? If you have an accent, perhaps, you might speak slower and even check in with the person to see if they heard you correctly. For example, with my clients who have accents, we sometimes switch from the word “result” to an easy-to-pronounce word: “outcome.”

  1. Move them to “forgive”

Many of us are afraid that we may come across too strongly.

You’re supposed to be excited about what you offer (a product/service).

Still, some people may recoil. If you see the person stiffen or flinch a bit, say, “Forgive me, I was just excited that ____.”

Here are examples:

  • Forgive me, I was just excited that you may find this method useful when writing your book.
  • Forgive me, I was just excited because it’s fun to help people do ______

Now it’s your turn.

Will you use the phrase “Forgive me, I was just excited that ___”?

Is there some way you want to modify the phrase?

(We avoid saying “I’m sorry” because it is less active. That is, when you say, “I’m sorry,” the other person does not have much to do. Additionally, saying “I’m sorry” comes across as one has done something really wrong. Finally, “I’m sorry” often sounds too ingratiating.)

Remember to rehearse your Recovery Methods and you’ll significantly eliminate a large amount of nervousness. Why? Because you know that you know how to adapt well to bumpy times in a first meeting with someone.

In my interviews with top successful people, I find that they have developed ways to be at ease in first meetings with people.

You can rehearse and improve your networking skills.

This above material is from my workshops/keynote addresses: Relax Your Way Networking. See some strategies in this 1.5 min video:

Get Clients Fearlessly

Walk strong like a tiger; overcome fear and protect your Dream.

Walk strong like a tiger; overcome fear and protect your Dream.

“You’re a great coach,” I said to my friend Marion.

“Yeah, but I don’t have enough clients,” she lamented.

“What’s causing that?” I asked.

After she provided all sorts of reasons, including the economy and more, she finally confessed, “I’m afraid.”

“Well done!” I said. “This is good work that you’re acknowledging fear. We can build upwards from here.”

As an Executive Coach – Spoken Word Strategist, I often help clients develop their brand, products, services and their sales/marketing process. I help new entrepreneurs and veteran entrepreneurs take their success to higher levels. I help them get the blocks out of the way so their prosperity flows well.

We use the A.I.M. process:

A – admit fear-points
I – intensify Fearless-Action
M – measure and connect

  1. Admit fear-points

Some years ago, I wasn’t asking for referrals. Why? Fear. I was afraid of asking too soon, of breaking rapport, or imposing on the other person.

It’s fear that holds us back from getting our product or service into the hands of so many people who would greatly benefit.

What fear?

Let’s look closely:

Fear of

  • rejection
  • looking stupid
  • interrupting, being crude and rude
  • blowing the deal with a client
  • hurting one’s reputation
  • losing money
  • wasting time

The springboard for doing well is to “admit one’s fear-points.”

First you admit your fear-point, then you develop a plan of action to handle that particular fear-point.

Then you go into the real world and implement the plan of action and see what works and what needs refinement.

There is an additional step in this process:

Admit Fear-point –> Develop a Plan –> Get Coaching/Rehearsal –> Take Action

Rehearsal is a prime method to help you quiet down fear.

To this day, I rehearse before a vital phone call and before attending networking events (for example).

“The key to success is for you to make a habit throughout your life of doing the things you fear.” – Vincent Van Gogh

Now it’s your turn.

What is a fear-point for you? How can you make a plan, get coaching, rehearse and take effective action?

  1. Intensify Fearless-Action

What would you do if fear did NOT stop you? This is the Fearless-Action.

Over the years, I have told myself:

  • I’d ask that best-selling author to endorse my book
  • I’d ask for a referral
  • I’d ask the person to pay my retainer for a whole year in advance

This is the real power of identifying your Fearless-Action: You then prepare, make a plan and implement that plan.

Now it’s your turn.

What would you do if fear did NOT stop you? How can you prepare and rehearse so you actually do the Fearless-Action?

  1. Measure and connect

It’s true that we often cannot improve something if we don’t measure it.

For example, I guide clients who see how to really improve their business:

Have Three Simple Measurements:

“This week how many times did I

  1. ask for a referral,
  2. have a “sales conversation”
  3. ask someone to buy something?

The important detail is: You don’t move to the step of asking someone to buy without having a good connection with that person.

What does it take to have a good connection?

  • Listening well.
  • Quieting down your own fear about getting sales.
  • Applying your full attention to this present moment.

For many of us, the above actions require coaching and rehearsal.

Now it’s your turn.

How can you pick a simple measurement to energize you to make progress?

Now, back track and look at how you can improve connection so you ask for a referral/sale at the appropriate time. How can you make sure that you’re creating High Trust Relationships?

How You Can Really Experience Freedom and Joy

Ready to open the door and step into your next moment fresh?

Ready to open the door and step into your next moment fresh?

“You don’t understand. I can’t trust Will. He left me there stranded,” Cheryl said, tears in her eyes.

Her boyfriend forgot to pick her up at the airport. This immediately triggered her to not only remember but also, in a way, re-experience the day when her parents resolved to get a divorce. They forgot her at an elementary school.

When we replay personal pain, we step out of the present moment. When we get blinded by past pain or future-worry, we separate from anyone next to us in the present moment.

I’ve developed methods I call Emotion-Motion Life Hacks.

The Most Important Emotion-Motion Life Hack helps you Enter the Moment Fresh. We’re talking about the essence of freedom: to live your life your way.

Authors/researchers have described a “life hack” as any shortcut or tactic that improves one’s productivity or efficiency.

The process is about “moving your emotion.”

When something triggers you to re-experience a past trauma, you are literally not free. You’re actually someplace other than the present.

I’ve actually asked a client: “Where did you go?” When she acknowledged that she was stuck in reliving a past, painful moment, she was then able to move forward.

How You Can Enter the Moment Fresh

First, you need to identify when you have LEFT the present moment.

The hard part for many of us is to stay aware to how we may be buffeted around on currents of thought patterns that keep us in fear of having more pain.

How to Switch Out of a Past-Pattern

I’ll share two methods:

  1. Condition Yourself with a “Switch Phrase”
  2. Combine an Energy-Move with an Empowered Second Thought.

1. Condition Yourself with a “Switch Phrase”

Some of my clients use a phrase to switch the direction of their thoughts; they’re using a “Switch Phrase.” My personal favorite phrase is “Replace worry with action.”

Because I’m leading teams in the United Kingdom, India and USA, I’m involved with lots of challenges. I do not stay in a worry-thought for much time. How? Immediately, my mind turns to “Replace worry with action.” Sometimes, the good action is to “get more information” or “develop a plan.” Former CEO of the Walt Disney Company, Michael Eisner said that once he and his doctors had a plan in place for his by-pass surgery and steps of recovery, he felt better! It was simply a matter of implementing the plan.

2. Combine an Energy-Move with an Empowered Second Thought.

If I feel tired but still I need to grade graduate students’ papers, I tap my closed fist on my right thigh as I say, “I can do this!” Tapping my fist is an “Energy-Move.” My phrase “I can do this!” directs my thinking and feeling into an empowered state of being.

I rise from a low mood thought of “I’m tired” to the energized level of “I can do this!”

“I’m tired is the first thought, and “I can do this!” is the Empowered Second Thought.

*  *  *

When you want to experience more moments of real freedom, use the Emotion-Motion Life Hacks that I’ve shared:

  1. Condition Yourself with a “Switch Phrase”
  2. Combine an Energy-Move with an Empowered Second Thought.

Tonight, I learned from author Bernard Roth as he gave a speech on his book, The Achievement Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing and Take Command of Your Life. Bernie is the Rodney H. Adams Professor of Engineering and the academic director the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (the d.school) at Stanford University.

While Bernie gave his presentation, I wrote down a lot of notes.

On page 71 of his book, Bernie writes: “Reframing a problem is essentially a change of POV [point of view]. At the d.school we’ve had several instances where reframing led to spectacular results.” Further, Bernie notes: “If you want to find something new, it is important to start with a problem and not with a solution. Once you introduce solutions prematurely, you shut down the discovery process.”

In his talk, Bernie emphasized that we often think we are focused on a true problem. But he noted that we often mislead ourselves. He mentioned how at his presentation at Microsoft, one woman said that her problem was to “find a good man.” Bernie asked about what that would get her, and she replied, “Companionship.” In his talk, Bernie noted that she could get companionship in many ways: with a cat, with friends, or attend a class.

It is possible that “find a good man” might not be the real problem. Perhaps, “fill some emptiness” might be a particular problem.

Bernie also emphasized the difference between “trying” and “doing.” He mentioned a time when he dropped off a family member who tried to get a ticket to a movie at the Roxie Theater, San Francisco. (I related to that because I had met actor Danny Glover at a special event at that unique movie theater.)

After parking the car, Bernie walked up to his family member who said that the tickets were sold out.

Bernie said, “I was going to see this movie. . . It didn’t take that long. I got a ticket at the box office when someone requested their money back for a ticket. Then, I walked along the line and bought a ticket from someone who had a friend who couldn’t make it to the movie.”

When I talked with Bernie, I mentioned that I had written 29 books. Then I had the idea to take a photo [attached to this article] with both Bernie’s book and my 29th book Droids to Magic: Fantastic Tales of Science Fiction and Wonder. With this book, I celebrate my doing and not just trying.

On page 243 of his book The Achievement Habit, Bernie writes: “Prototype Your Way to Success. A prototype is a sample or model created to show or test a concept—something to be learned from. In solving problems, an excellent way to move forward is to incorporate prototyping into your process. . . . Prototypes can be in any form that gives information. They do not need to look like or work like the final solution, and they certainly do not need to do both.”

In conversation, I mentioned to Bernie, that my book Droids to Magic celebrates my doing of one particular story, Living.

Here I’ll share my process of doing—and prototyping:

What I DID with the story Living:

1) I wrote a screenplay (that got me into the US film industry and gained cooperation from the California Motion Picture Commissioner who secured, for free, the San Luis Obispo Airport and an American Eagle airplane—for a feature film I subsequently directed.)
2) I filmed a version of Living.
3) I completed a two-hour audio novel version of Living.
4) I completed a novella (contained in Droids to Magic) of this story.

The best version of the story is the novella. I prototyped Living in the above ways.

I’ll share this in few words. When you want to get unstuck and really accomplish something aligned with your dreams, you’ll get a copy of Bernie’s book, The Achievement Habit. (See much of the book when you CLICK HERE )

Tom

Learn the Secret to Unleash Real Prosperity — “The Power of 50”

JackAngelSword_Air_Final_logo4-8-16

Keep to Your Dreams! – – Tom Marcoux ‘s character “Jack AngelSword” soon to appear in his novel “Jenalee Storm: Magic Rises”

“I’m exhausted,” my new client Cheryl said.

“I hear you,” I replied, “Based on what you do for your business, it’s no wonder.”

Cheryl, like many of us who own a business, is working seven days a week. She wonders will she ever be able to have more personal time?

One of my mentors gave me the real solution. He said, “Ideally, you need to shift from concentrating 98% of your attention on just current cash flow.”

He was talking about an important point. Many entrepreneurs are so caught up with working IN their business that they are not working ON their business. When this happens you don’t have a business, “you just bought yourself a job.” By this I mean, you have situation in which you only trade your time for money.

The Solution is:

  1. Build your business so you don’t always have to be there.
  2. Build real business assets.

Here’s an example.

As an Executive Coach – Spoken Word Strategist, I need to be right there with my client. In this manner, I’m in the business of helping people transform their lives!

Still, every week, I schedule time for:

  1. I’m writing — toward my next books (I don’t have to be there as the books sell in 15 countries)
  2. Work on my franchise Jenalee Storm (which features Jack AngelSword).

For example, the first time Jenalee Storm and Jack AngelSword appeared was in my book Droids to Magic: Fantastic Tales of Science Fiction and Wonder  (See the book when you CLICK HERE )

Droids to Magic features characters from two of my franchises: Jack AngelSword and Jenalee Storm. These franchises will ultimately include graphic novels, feature films and action figures!

The Power of Exceptional Focus

Do you spend time each week, actually building your business? Or are you—what I called myself years ago—“a little fire truck putting out fires?”

Improve your life. How? Use what I call the “Power of 50.” The ideal ratio of working on current cash flow and working on building your business is 50%-50%. Or what I call the Power of 50.

It’s true that your percentages of working on current cash flow and working on future cash flow will vary week to week.

Still, it helps to keep that idea of 50%-50% in mind.

Ultimately, I want my franchises (Jack AngelSword, Jenalee Storm, TimePulse, Crystal Pegasus) to serve so many people that Disney wants to buy my company near the end of my lifespan. I want my work to continue to inspire and entertain people beyond my lifespan.

What do you really want to contribute?

And what are you doing so that you don’t have to work so many long hours as your life goes along?

Remember:

  1. Build your business so you don’t always have to be there.
  2. Build real business assets.

Warmly,

Tom

Unleash Your Real Power through “Emotion-Motion Life Hacks”

Unleash your real power through Tom Marcoux 's Emotion-Motion Life Hacks.

Unleash your real power through Tom Marcoux ‘s Emotion-Motion Life Hacks.

Feel exhausted? Or is procrastination killing your dream?

Similarly, my client, Helen, said, “I’m just too exhausted at the end of the day to do any writing.”

“I hear you,” I replied. “Would you like to explore some options?”

She said yes, and we began a process that I call “Emotion-Motion Life Hacks.”

Authors/researchers have described a “life hack” as any shortcut or tactic that improves one’s productivity or efficiency.

I do not talk from theory. As the author of 28 books, I’ve learned to get a lot done for my dreams—even when my schedule is filled with travel, speaking, and logistics.

The process is about “moving your emotion.”

The idea is the you ARE flowing at your best—through the day.

A – arrange some hope!
R – reorganize by energy
E – energize by principles

  1. Arrange some hope!

Get something done for you and your dream on a daily basis. Even devoting just 15 minutes a day to painting a picture or writing a book can fill you with some hope! This will move your feelings and you’ll discover that you feel more personal energy.

And keep a Progress Log. I log the number of words I write each day. Researchers note that seeing progress (and checking something off one’s list) often results in rise in dopamine in your body. You literally feel better!

Now it’s your turn.

How can you devote just 10 minutes today to something that inspires hope in you?

  1. Reorganize by energy

My client Helen does not feel energized when she walks in the door after a hectic time at her “job to pay the rent.”

It’s better for her to use her lunch hour well.

She has a bite to eat and writes for 30 minutes during her lunch hour.

The food and time away from work helps her.

She has more energy in the middle of the day than in the evening.

Now she reorganizes her life not by vague ideas. Instead, she monitors her energy levels. Then she reorganizes her schedule related to her energy levels.

Now it’s your turn.

How can you do something that brightens your day when you’re feeling more energetic?

  1. Energize by principles

The essence of “Emotion-Motion Life Hacks” is using principles that help your function at your best.

Here are examples:

  • Keep Score and Achieve More  . . . [Use a Progress Log.]
  • Courage is easier when you’re prepared . . . [Rehearse before a meeting, speech or job interview.]
  • Better than Zero*

*Better Than Zero . . . This principle is based on the idea that doing a little bit of some action is better than doing nothing. For example, I have a family member who is in the process of dropping excess weight. I walk with her two times a day. The walks are brief, but her body is getting used to more exercise . . . everyday!

When you use the above principles you have more energy, you get more done, and you feel better about your life. Your emotion moves in a positive flow.

In essence, you move yourself out of a disempowering low mood into an empowering mood. As an Executive Coach – Spoken Word Strategist, I help clients identify what works for them on a consistent basis.

*  *  *

When you want to rise to higher levels of success and happiness, consider Emotion-Motion Life Hacks. Learn to move your emotion to a more empowering state of being.

You’ll get more done, and you’ll feel better doing it.

Warmly,

Tom
